Leadership & Sustainability Coach
William Bryan is Vice President of Leadership and Organization Development at the Center for Secondary School Redesign (CSSR). Bill provides districts and schools with the skills required to implement major change initiatives, and to develop school or district level strategic plans that underpin the adoption of practices leading to enhanced student outcomes. Bill provided change leadership coaching in all thirteen schools in the i3 New England Network for Personalization and Performance. His work included initiative mapping to maintain focus on what is most important, and targeted professional development on how to implement personalized practices with fidelity and sustainability.
Trained as a clinical psychologist, Bill’s career has spanned many sectors. After graduating from Dartmouth College, Bill entered the Army where he held several command positions and achieved the rank of Captain. Following his Army service, Bill obtained a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from George Washington University and held a variety of positions including college teaching and private clinical practice focusing on children, adolescents and families. Based on his clinical and academic experience, he was hired to create and direct the student counseling services at Bryant University. His interest in communication skills training and work with business led to a position as project director with McBer and Company, a Boston consulting firm specializing in applied motivation and competency research.
In 1983, Bill founded Bryan Associates, Inc. (BAI), and ran this very successful management consulting firm until he joined CSSR and entered the education arena in 2006. BAI provided organization, management, and executive development services to a wide variety of companies in the private, non-profit, and government sectors. Three of his specialty areas were performance assessment, leader capacity building, and organization development to include strategic planning and continuous improvement. A sample of clients served includes: Anheuser-Busch; AT&T; Entergy Corp.; Hewlett-Packard; Johnson & Johnson; Major League Baseball; Mobil; the New York Stock Exchange; Southwestern Bell; the YMCA of the United States; and the U.S. Navy.
Bill is an experienced speaker at both the local and national level. He is a member of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict and Violence. He served for a number of years as a member of the advisory board of the Executive MBA program at the University of Rhode Island. Bill has written many white papers, articles, and professional development programs. He is the lead author of Breaking Ranks II and the Breaking Ranks in the Middle Implementation Guide titled: Breaking Ranks: A Field Guide for Leading Change.
