Mount Abraham Union Middle High School (Mt. Abe) is a public middle/high school serving approximately 700 students in grades 7-12. Mt. Abe is part of the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union, a five-town district located in west central Vermont, and comprised of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven and Starksboro. Approximately 30% of students are eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch. Mt. Abe is committed to personalized learning and competency-based education to prepare students for the 21st century.
As a result of the involvement with the i3 New England Network, Mt. Abe was able to transform the Middle School through the creation of a developmentally appropriate, integrated, competency-based curriculum. The class of 2020 will graduate with a competency-based, personalized background that will feature portfolios of student work, personal learning plans, and increased student voice and choice through community council and peer facilitation. Change leadership teams are established and functioning in the school
“The most meaningful experience for me over the past five years has been watching my teachers become re-energized about teaching. Setting the bar high with a vision of personalized, integrated curriculum has brought out the most creative energies I have seen in my entire career.”
